This Atlas Moth is one of the sons of the Atlas Moth that flew into our living room. Much smaller than his mother, this is him the morning after he broke free of his silk cocoon.
The cocoon is weaved by him when he is a caterpillar prior to the pupae stage. We plucked this from the Torch ginger plant he had been feeding on and placed it above our bed to keep him safe.
He is hanging from the silk cocoon (he was in it for one month). He will spend 24 hours here gathering his strength and will then fly off to pick up pheromones from a female, he will mate, then he will die. He will live for just 5-7 days…
