I loved the idea of building in bamboo. The Tabanan Region is known for its towering bamboo. It fitted all my ideas of sustainability; it is a grass, it grows quickly, the larger bamboos growing a metre a day, it has astonishing strength/weight ratio. This is the journey so far of what makes our resort accommodation so unique - from brick and teak timber to bamboo.

It happened in a flash. I got up one morning and feeling the need to express the mood, wrote a poem. I then walked into my office and said to the manager and assembled staff, “I’m leaving!”

 “Boss. You’ve been saying that for years.” my manager said.

 I was gone within the week.
